Why U of Digital Chose Intellum as its Enterprise-Grade LMS

The U of Digital learning platform learn.uof.digital is built on the Intellum LMS. Intellum just published a case study featuring U of Digital earlier this week. If you’re running an LMS in the marketing and advertising industry, you should check it out.

But I wanted to offer a few extra thoughts.

I’ve worn multiple hats during my nearly four years at U of Digital (I’m currently on my 4th hat by my count). Year 1 was all about evangelism. Lots of public speaking and bylines and what-not.

Then Year 2 was a total departure from that where I became “unofficial CTO” and took the lead on re-tooling U of Digital tech infrastructure. We were outgrowing the smaller engagements that characterized the early years of the business and moving into a role of enterprise partnerships where we were becoming part of the learning and upskilling infrastructure of Fortune 500s.

A big part of my role as “unofficial CTO” was selecting and implementing a new enterprise-grade LMS (Learning Management System in case you don’t work in L&D).

Fun fact: before she joined U of Digital full-time to lead our customer success team, Veronica Ripson was of immense help jumping into an LMS evaluation process we undertook in 2H 2023.

In the end we selected Intellum. I’ll highlight three reasons why:

1. Marketing & advertising industry fit

The platform had marketing/advertising/media industry cred (Google, Meta, Pinterest, etc are clients). It was possible to look at live examples of similar marketing industry training catalogs.

2. Enterprise-readiness

It’s definitely an enterprise-grade platform that can handle growth across multiple dimensions such number of users, client partitioning, and feature adoption.

3. Ease of use

Intellum is pretty easy to use. U of Digital is a lean company. Whatever we selected had to be simple and low-overhead while still being enterprise-grade; this was a key needle we had to thread. Not to mention Veronica and I were going to need to do the actual work of implementing the entire thing and migrating off our previous LMS.

Anyway, the team at Intellum were kind enough to work with us on a case study that sheds a bit of light on the operational and systems work that goes on behind the scenes to make U of Digital the rockstar ads industry training partner that it is.

Needless to say, we’re very proud of the amazing trainings we deliver to learners across the marketing and advertising industry, but we are equally pround of the parts our clients and learners rarely see: the operational and systems work that makes everything run smoothly.
